Our School Dog – Odie

Meet our school dog Odie, a much loved member of our school community! Odie joined us in 2023 and has been making a positive difference ever since. He loves listening to children read, creating a calm and supportive environment that helps build confidence and makes reading time extra special. Odie also plays an important role in helping pupils regulate their emotions – his gentle nature and friendly presence provide comfort and reassurance when children need it most.

Odie enjoys working with children from all classes, spreading happiness wherever he goes. He’s a big fan of assemblies and loves being part of whole school events, especially when he gets to watch the fantastic performances put on by our talented pupils. Whether he’s sitting quietly during story time, greeting children with a wagging tail or simply being a loyal companion, Odie brings joy, warmth and a sense of calm to our school every single day. We are so lucky to have him as part of our team!

Why is having a school dog so beneficial?

Research shows that school dogs can help improve children’s wellbeing, reduce anxiety and create a positive learning environment. Odie encourages reading confidence, supports emotional regulation and helps children feel safe and happy in school. His presence promotes kindness, empathy and responsibility – important life skills for every child.
